Histeroscopy

Hysteroscopy is a procedure that allows your doctor to look inside your uterus in order to diagnose and treat causes of abnormal bleeding (eg. endometrial polyps, sub mucous myomas/fibroids), to remove uterine septum or intra-uterine adhesions (important for fertility purposes) or to find and remove displaced IUDs (intrauterine devices). In cases of suspicion of uterine malignant disease, it allows your Doctor to do a direct biopsy of the endometrium, which is mandatory before definite surgery is performed.

Hysteroscopy is done using a hysteroscope, a thin, lighted tube that is inserted into the vagina to examine the cervix and the interior of the uterus. It may be done without anaesthesia or done under local or general anaesthesia, and generally in an outpatient regimen.
